The Arts Society was established in 1968 and originally called The National Association for Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS).  The organisation has grown to be a vibrant network of local societies of people, brought together through a shared curiosity for the Arts and our artistic heritage.  There are over 360 Societies in the UK and more than 90,000 members worldwide.

In 2017 the organisation carried out a rebranding exercise culminating in the adoption of a new name “The Arts Society” together with a new logo and presentational formats.

As a member of The Arts Society you can learn, discover more about the Arts by joining a group near to where you live.  Our events are welcoming places – locally, nationally and globally; a place to make new friends with a common interest.

The Arts Society has over 900 accredited lecturers whose specialist knowledge include Old Masters, Furniture, Music, Textiles, Architecture and much more.  The lectures are at the centre of each Societies’ activities, but there are also other ways of engaging, through volunteering activities. Members may become involved with conservation work, assist young people through art projects or work in a group creating detailed records of the contents and features of a local church.
